Activities and books that can help your kid read

Books and activities can help your child develop great enthusiasm for reading and writing.

By doing various activities with your kid it allows you to promote their reading and writing skills while having fun with them at the same time.

1- Picture books

Babies love looking at picture books.

Picture books that are very graphic and colourful can keep your child entertained for hours.

You can help your child recognise different animals or birds in the picture book by pointing it out to them.

You can even make the different noises that a bird or an animal makes which will help them remember their names faster.

2- Musical books

There are various books available in the market which emits different musical sounds when you open it and turn the pages.

These musical books are fascinating for your child to go through them although it might get a little noisy for you.

3- Repetition and Rhyme

Have you ever noticed how every kid’s songs have repeated phrases and have lyrics that rhyme?

These repeated phrases make the books predictable and will help a child to even guess what’s coming next.

You can even read the lyrics out loud for them as well so that they know you enjoy doing such activities with them.

4- Poetry

Listening to poems that rhyme will help your child enjoy learning the words faster.

You can read the poem out loud to them in different voices so your child finds it more interesting to learn the whole poem.

Your child may enjoy acting out different characters also while you applaud them and participate enthusiastically with them.

5- Story

Every night when they are ready to go to bed, you can read a story out slowly for them.

You can even pause in between the story reading so that it gives time to be curious about what happens next.

You can answer possible questions that they might have about the story.

6- Imaginative play

Children love to make up stories in their head and play it out in real life.

They can pretend to be a play doctor or a cook and have a great time with you.

7- Television

Television can play a huge role in shaping a child’s future.

It’s important to set a fixed tv time for your child. Thirty minutes a day is more than enough for any child.

If you don’t set a fixed tv time then they might soon get addicted to watching TV all the time.

Start watching programs on tv that will help your child learn about various animals, birds or places.

8- Paintings

You can help a child learn so much if you just give them a piece of paper and some crayons where they can draw anything that they want from their imagination.

They can try to write different alphabets or numbers.

You can encourage them to write a letter to their favourite family member or draw out their favourite cartoons.

9- Shopping

One of the most fun activity that you can do with your child is shopping and talking to them while you do it.

You can teach them about the various fruits or vegetables available in the grocery store.

If your child asks for the spelling then you can help them by saying it out loud for them to remember.

10- Dictionary

As your child grows up, you can introduce them to a dictionary.

You can encourage them to read it and find interesting words.

They can choose any random page and read any word out loud and try to memorise the meaning behind it.

We hope these activities and books really help you have a wonderful time with your child.
