STEM Toys and Learning Games for Kids: Picks by Age
By Shruti Shukla
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths, but for children it simply means hands-on play that makes them curious: building, testing, counting, matching and asking “what happens if…?”. You don’t need a complicated kit to start. A good learning toy matches your child’s age and gives them something to figure out for themselves.
This guide covers learning toys, board games and science kits from our store, grouped by age, with prices and the age on each listing.

Toddlers and preschoolers (2 to 4 years)
At this age, learning is mostly about shapes, colours and letters, and it works best with chunky pieces and an adult nearby. The LazyToddler Capital Alphabets Board (₹699) is a wooden puzzle board with a colourful alphabet design, listed for ages 2 to 4. It’s made from durable wood with child-safe, non-toxic paint, measures 30 × 26 × 2.9 cm and weighs 350 g. Children match each piece to its place, which helps with letter recognition and hand control.
For even simpler early learning, our animals and community helpers flash cards from Clapjoy are ₹150 each and listed for ages 2 and up.
Creative learners (4 years and up)
Art is part of STEM too, because it builds the patience and fine motor control children need for later projects. The DIY Planter Painting Kit – Unicorn (₹599) includes a ceramic unicorn planter, 12 watercolours, a brush and a sponge, with step-by-step instructions. Once painted, it works as a planter or a decorative piece, so it makes a good gift. It’s listed for ages 4 to 14, and younger children will need help.
School-age children (6 years and up)
Number games make maths feel like play. In Super Math Spy (₹549), children race to make equations with mission cards, decoder glasses, dice and tokens, covering addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It’s listed from age 6.
Squared: Battle of Numbers (₹599) is a board game for 2 to 4 players, listed for ages 6 to 12. Each player tries to fill a 4×4 grid with numbered tiles in ascending order, across rows and down columns, while blocking opponents. The box has 4 boards and 81 tiles. It’s a good family game because the rules are simple, but there’s room for strategy.
Science kits (10 years and up)
The Earth–Moon Model Kit from Box of Science (₹450) is a DIY kit that helps children see lunar phases, orbits and eclipses. It’s listed for ages 10 and up.

How to choose
- Match the age and level. A toy that is slightly challenging holds attention. One that is too hard gets abandoned.
- Pick one concept at a time. A single idea, such as letters, magnetism or number order, is easier to explore than a kit that tries to do everything.
- Check the age label and safety information. Kits that include chemicals, magnets or small parts need adult supervision.
- Play together. Ask questions like “What do you think will happen?” and let your child try before you explain.
- Read the product page. Look at the contents, the size and any batteries or extra items needed.
