Emotional Well Being of Children During Corona Times

Are you concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing? Then we should worry for both emotional and mental well- being. Many top-rated schools in India have supported that as children are forced to stay indoors, any fear or anxiety they are experiencing increases manifolds due to forced indoor stay, lack of physical interaction with friends and most importantly no sports or play activities. Therefore, it is imperative that we recognise this fact and find some meaningful solutions.

1.   Eating a well-balanced healthy diet.

This input to a child’s body has a huge impact on the child’s mental well-being. There is a direct co-relation with the food we eat on how good we feel. The same is applicable to children as well. Eating healthy food should include non-processed food. Try to maximise fresh foods to your children with good number of items containing different nutrients like proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins etc with a decent amount of fat. Make them have a good amount of water at regular intervals. Caffeinated drinks like Pepsi and Coca cola should be strictly avoided. Work on keeping a minimal sugar intake as it reduces the immunity levels in the body. Keeping immunity high is especially important in these trying times.

2.   Exercising, Yoga and Pranayama.

A regimen should be created and followed for exercising, doing yoga and pranayama at least two times a day. This will ensure muscle movement and strengthening and release of endorphins in the body, thus improving mood and resulting in stress alleviation.Exercising also improves blood circulation in the body, thereby keeping the body healthy.

3.   Good Sleep.

Good sleep has a direct correlation with mental well-being, children’s learning ability, memory, and emotional stability. Sleep rejuvenates the body and helps keep brain functioning properly. It is generally seen that sleep deprived children experience greater anxiety and have a propensity for negative thinking. Therefore, it is very essential that children sleep for 8-10 hours a day with good dreams. Here, the other two attributes mentioned above- food and exercise play an especially important role in good sleeping.

4.   Be a virtual social animal.

It is particularly important that the child has healthy interaction with his/her family members. Encourage your child to have a virtual playtime with his friends. Ensure to take him/her out for recreation with adequate precautions of social distancing and always mask on policy. Encourage him/her to cultivate new skill in this period and help him make new friends during these virtual classes. Encourage your child to play at home with creative toys. Encourage your child to spend time on learning new things during the day. This will essentially make his/her brain to stay in the present moment.

5.   Doing it together.

Involve your child in everything that you do. He can help in daily household chores in the kitchen, in the garden, you can read books together, enjoying movies together. These may look a mystery due to our busy schedule. With a little effort, routine can be established, and a stage is set for your child to be bubbling with energy and ideas. We at Lilamigosnest.com are sure that these are easily achievable goals for every parent, little focus can do wonders!!
